Foreign trade figures of Russia

Foreign Trade in Figures

ier (data Federal Customs Service).

Since 2022, Russia no longer publishes detailed trade data by partner country. Asian countries accounted for 73.4% of Russia's total trade turnover in 2025 (72.6% in 2024), while the share of Europe fell to 18.6% (from 19.7%). Exports to Europe dropped by 16.5% to USD 57.4 billion, whereas exports to Asia edged down by 1.0% to USD 326.0 billion (Federal Customs Service). The conflict between Russia and Ukraine resulted in substantial trade redirection for Russia, particularly favouring Russian mineral oil and gas exports from Europe to Asia. The trade adaptations are primarily driven by increases in import prices, with noticeable variations among product categories and geographic areas.

The country has recorded significant and regular trade surpluses, mainly due to the richness of its natural resources, notably hydrocarbons (crude oil and natural gas in particular). According to the latest WTO data, Russia exported USD 419.4 billion worth of goods in 2025 – down by 3.3% compared to the previous year - and imported USD 302.7 billion (+0.4% y-o-y, respectively). In the same year, the country exported USD 46.3 billion in services (+7.5%) and imported USD 94.8 billion (+16.4%). Russia’s trade balance was estimated to be positive by 2.7% of its GDP in 2025 by the World Bank, from 4.3% one year earlier. According to the Federal Customs Service, the trade surplus narrowed by 8.2% in 2025 to USD 139.3 billion, as exports fell by 3.7% to USD 418.3 billion and imports by 1.4% to USD 279.0 billion.
