Independence of Justice

The Constitution and law of the Ivory Coast provide for the independence of the judiciary in ordinary criminal cases and civil matters. Under the Constitution and in practice, the judiciary accedes to the executive on political and national security issues. The High Judicial Council, which appoints judges, may reportedly be subject to political interference.
