Independence of Justice: The Constitution ensures the independence of the judiciary, it is still widely influenced by political leaders. It is reported that civilian cases are sometimes tried in military courts, which are subject to interference from high-ranking military personnel. Arbitrary arrests and detentions are also common.
Ethnic discrimination is still a significant problem in some parts of the country (especially against the Kinyarwanda-speaking minority).
