Bosnia and Herzegovina is a parliamentary democracy with a consociational power-sharing system, established under the General Framework Agreement for Peace (Dayton Agreement, 1995). The country is composed of two entities: the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which covers 51% of the territory and has a Bosniak and Croat majority, and Republika Srpska, which covers 49% of the territory and has a Serb majority. Additionally, Brčko District is a self-governing administrative unit under the direct sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was created through international arbitration and is not part of either entity, though it is jointly owned by both. Thus, Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of two entities plus Brčko District.
